DB won 87-85 at home against Busan KCC, the regular season champion for the 2023-2024 season, at Wonju Gymnasium on Thursday.
DB (9-1), which has started a winning streak after failing to win its opening eight games in a row, consolidated its hold on first place.
Coach Kim said after the game, “I expected a difficult game. The opponent’s toughness exposed our passive movements, and we need to train for the next game,” said Kim.
On the day, DB was down 8-15 in the first quarter against KCC, but showed off their backbone with a fierce comeback.
“If there’s one thing I’m disappointed with, it’s the rebounding (DB 42, KCC 39),” Kim said, “I think we need to order the players a little more. We made mistakes at important moments. We only had 10, but I hope they realize the importance of the ball and the importance of rebounding.”
He did praise the performance of leading scorer Dedrick Lawson (20 points, 12 rebounds). He laughed at the fact that Lawson, who had a triple-double in the previous game, was held to nine points in the first half but made up for it with 11 in the second.
“I felt a little off,” Kim said, “I had to shoot at the right time, but they didn’t give me (the timing). When I broke through, I had help defense ready, but when it didn’t work out, I found a clever way.”
Meanwhile, KCC coach Jeon Chang-jin said, “We lacked one small thing. They are very organized. We lacked that. At the end, (Heo) Ung-i had a shot that went in and we chased it down, but we lacked the details. It was a hard-fought game.” He accepted the defeat.
