Ahead of that, ESPN reported on its 13 experts’ picks on Wednesday.
According to them, Gunner Henderson (Baltimore Orioles) and Corbin Carroll (Arizona Diamondbacks) will win the American League (AL) and National League (NL) Rookie of the Year, respectively. They’re so dominant that the rest of the field is just bridesmaids. All were unanimous.
For managerial awards, the AL was dominated by Baltimore’s Brandon Hyde with nine first-place votes. Bruce Bochy, who led the Texas Rangers to a World Series title, received four votes.
In the NL, former Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell received seven first-place votes, edging out Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker, who received six. In reality, though, we don’t know what will happen.
For the AL, Gerrit Cole (New York Anchors) was the unanimous choice for the Cy Young Award. In the NL, Blake Snell (San Diego Padres) received 12 votes. Logan Webb (San Francisco Giants) received one vote.
The AL MVP was unanimously awarded to Shohei Ohtani. Corey Seager and Marcus Semien were honorable mentions.
In the NL, Ronald Acuña Jr. (Atlanta Braves) was named MVP with 12 first-place votes. Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers) received one vote.
