The brawl, which was reminiscent of the UFC, ended with a slew of disciplinary actions. Eight players were suspended in total.
MLB.com reported on Aug. 8 that six players from the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox were suspended.
The teams were involved in an on-field brawl on June 6. Fans who canceled their tickets and traveled to Progressive Field were treated to not only baseball, but also the UFC. Here’s what happened. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with the bases loaded, Andres Jimenez walked and Jose Ramirez singled down the right field foul line. Ramirez sprinted toward second base and slid between the legs of White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, landing on second base.
This behavior became problematic. Suddenly, Ramirez and Anderson started arguing, stomping on the staff, and throwing punches. At first, Anderson seemed to hit Ramirez more, but Ramirez was the winner. Anderson was knocked to the ground by a Ramirez “nuclear punch” to the face. Afterward, players from both teams poured onto the field.
The bench clearing didn’t end there. After another round of brawling, the teams clashed again, and the game was stopped for about 14 minutes. It ended with a total of six ejections, including UFC fighters Ramirez and Anderson, as well as Cleveland manager Terry Francona and White Sox manager Pedro Griffol. Their suspensions were announced on Aug. 8.
According to MLB.com, Anderson, the “ringleader” of the brawl, received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine, while Ramirez, who threw a punch to Anderson’s jaw, received a three-game suspension and fine, the most severe of the ejected players.
Francona, Griffol, and Cleveland third base coach Michael Sabo each received one-game suspensions and fines, as did Emmanuel Classe (Cleveland), who lost control of his temper during bench clearing. Additionally, Michael Kopeck (White Sox) and Gabriel Arias (Cleveland) were fined.토스카지노
Their punishments were scheduled to take effect immediately, starting with their eighth game. However, Ramirez was named to the starting lineup against Ryu Hyun-jin (Toronto Blue Jays), who will be looking for his first win. Ramirez has decided to appeal his suspension with Major League Baseball. The same goes for Anderson.
As a result, Classe, Francona, Griffol, and Sabo will be suspended for eight games for accepting the discipline, while Ramirez and Anderson’s suspensions are on hold pending the conclusion of the process.
